How do I manually drag and drop photos in any order I want?

I can't figure this out. How do I click and drag a photo to wherever I want in order with my other photos in the same folder? I read forums and someone said to select them all, rename them, and they will become xyz(1), xyz(2) etc....but first, I need to DRAG and DROP them in the order I want them to be named! So how do I do this, or is windows stupid now and doesn't have that option available? Because I can't find it!

Hello TurtleQueen, and welcome to Seven Forums.

If you like, you could use the tutorial below to disable auto arrange to be able to arrange files in any order and/or position in Windows Explorer. The blue NOTE box at the top of the tutorial can help with how to use it for what you like. :)

Windows Explorer Auto Arrange - Disable

    Hope this helps,
    Shawn

No, I assure you that it's quite real. If you like, give it a try and see. The example screenshot in the tutorial can help show you some of what you can do with auto arrange disabled. If you decide you don't like it, then you could just do OPTION TWO to undo it and go back to default.

What happened when you clicked on the blue download button for it?

I must be nuts, Brink! I still can't move my pictures around in the window. How can I be sure the disable download has taken effect? I looked in all my programs and I don't see it.

    Lisa,

This will not work in a library if that is where you are trying to move them at. Double check the items in the blue NOTE box at the top of the tutorial to see if they may apply. In addition, the example screenshots in the same tutorial below can help show you what it looks like when you drag items into any arrangement and/or position.
