Strange glitches in W7- a Virus?!

CJH2012, if you don't have time to deal with running disk diagnostics programs on the drive that's making unusual noises, you should at least ensure that all your user data is backed up to some other reliable storage.

Do you have a real need for Driver Manager? w7 handles drivers pretty well on its own. I would be hesitant installing or relying on it.

I just read some news about Driver Manager here:

f5ing- I do have reliable backup storage, and regularly use Windows 7's backup facility. I also save all my important data 3 times- on Microsoft's cloud, on the 'Home' drive and on the removable storage.

I've already told you not to touch driver finder programs as they are from the XP era and useless to Win7, which is driver complete in the installer and via optional Updates.

No telling what kind of mess this and any other retro crapware you've installed have made of Win7 so I would start fresh to get a Clean Reinstall following the steps in the blue link to get and maintain a perfect install. Then we can better help you troubleshoot if any issues persist.

Or you can get on with Troubleshooting Steps for Windows 7 reporting back the results of the actual steps. Unless you do the work you will not get it fixed otherwise.

Okay gregrocker I know you are trying to help, and I appreciate your help but I find your comments a bit pushy. Maybe I am on the wrong forum?
I have Driver Manager installed on my XP installation, not in Windows Seven, thanks to advice. It doesn't seem to be doing any harm there.
I have run the basic "Check Disc" command in my version of Windows Seven and it came back "Clean". I ran it with the following options:

-Automatically fix file system errors
-Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors


I am slowly getting through the lists of diagnosis test etc. you helpfully suggested in a methodical process but I don't have much time to spend on this.
