New to forum - need help pleeeeease. :)

    Hi,
This is the first time I've ever posted to a forum to ask a question about Windows 7. Until now, I've always serched the net to find the answers I need. However, at this point I am about ready to throw my laptop out the window and go buy at Mac.

I have spent almost $200 buying programs that are supposed to find duplicate files/documents on my hardrive so that I may delete them, therefore, having only one single copy of each file on my hard drive. After running that latest software. I am once again trying to sort my files and find that I have numersous copies of the same file. Everytime I want to save a new document, I save the file under c:/users/thansell/mydocuments. Today, I found the documents I saved under c:/users/thansell/mydocuments and another folder named c:/mydocuments/users/thansell. I have made a meticulous effort to always "save" and "save as" under c:/users/thansell/mydocuments. I have also gone into the computer settings and told it to use c:/users/thansell/mydocuments as my default location. Please, please someone help me. I only want one single copy of any document or file or folder I create on my hard drive. Having multiple copies is driving me crazy. I go back in an add info. to my existing documents all the time and it is so annoying to do a search for a specific document to find it is in multiple locations under multiple folders. I know I should just go into c:/users/thansell/mydocuments and add to the file with the latest date, but I don't know why the heck my computer is making so many copies of my files and documents. This is a big mess and lot of wasted space. I would truly appreciate if someone could please help me fix this maddening mess.
    Thank you.

I am not the best in this forums, but I will assist as far as i can.

    Anyways
Your computer is making duplicates you say? Can you show me? Please upload a picture of a search and it showing all the duplicated results. I will post a link on how to take screenshots and upload pictures at the end of this post.

I would like to know what type of files, where they are being stored. I have never heard of a computer making copies of random or specific files unless with the assistance of a 3rd party program.

is it possible you are looking at the library and thinking it is a duplicate, the libraries in short are shortcuts to the root folders

A lot of users perceive things in Windows as doing or being one thing/way when it's actually a practical application. Don't waste your money on a baby-gated POSx. Post some screen shots of what you're seeing, and we'll help :)

The folder C:\mydocuments is not a default part of Windows, but as usual, someone like you will blame Microsoft and assume that paying for an Apple (and Apple Tax) will somehow take the stress out of your life.

You spent $200 on software that is available completely for free, and my guess is, one of those apps is creating backup copies for you....assuming you didn't mistype the path.

To be clear, on a default system, you will have the documents folder under users, and a library called Documents that points to that same folder. That is not a duplicate copy of your data, it's just another shortcut to access the same location.

POSx is a perversion of an otherwise sexy kernel. Keep it open, keep it free...

Building proprietary everything and over pricing said components just to hock a souped up leap frog system is an insult to the intelligence of the user; and if they don't realize it, they're as dumb as Apple makes them out to be.
