    Thanks again Karl

As there is only one account, mine is the only login. I asked the children (actually they are 24 and 21) neither has used it, so I am the only user.

After the last set of tests I went through the installed programmes and removed all those I do not use but know I do not need, mostly games etc. I have not yet changed the start-up programme list, and I think I'll leave that for a while and see what I need. Boot up is so much faster now.

I'd appreciate any further advice (I do not really want to go to the hassle of a Win 7 reinstall given the warnings preamble), otherwise do you consider this now closed, or should I wait a little longer to see if the issue really is now solved?

FWIW, the MGADiag report is good - it's effectively identical to mine :) (also a K52F )

    Noel ,
Many thanks. That helps to rule out an entire possible problem area.

    Phillip,
You are going to try my pleasant nature.

Now follow the advice I gave regarding the task scheduler and the startup programs. Just as said there, nothing is deleted from you system. After your problems are gone, then you can re-enable and re-checkmark to your heart's content.

Go ahead and run that logon script. Check the times.

For absolutely best performance of Win7 do not run anything at Startup except your AV and gadgets/stickies if you use them.

Otherwise you have a bunch of freeloaders on your back.

Sorry Karl, I did run it but did not realise you wanted to see it (now attached). I have left everything disabled, although Kaspersky seems to have found a way to re-enable itself, that is all that starts up.

Many thanks again for your kind help

Many thanks, point well noted and you have reinforced Karl's advice, I'll leave it like that unless I really miss something, but I am sure I can open any application as and when needed

    phillip,
I didn't want to see the log on times. That was for you so that you could verify to yourself that no one else was using the machine.

Now that you've uninstalled, disabled scheduled tasks, disabled startup programs, would you please post an updated set of those three files from CCleaner?

    thanks,
    karl
