Unable to change power scheme in Windows Thin PC

Hello,

I have decided to test out Windows Thin PC, as I heard that it's a lightweight version of Windows based on W7. I have run into a problem however, and that is that I am unable to change the power plan from the system tray. I installed this twice; Once on a virtual machine (Oracle VM Virtualbox) and once on a Samsung R60+ laptop. The annoyance is that when I click on the battery, the available power plans are grayed out with the message 'Some settings are managed by your system administrator'.

In order to change power plan settings, I have to go to 'Power settings' in the control panel and select 'Change settings that are currently unavailable'. This is the only way I can change the plan.

I followed the steps in the following guide to no avail:

Power Plan - Specify a Default for All Users

The accounts on both machines are members of the local administrators group.
The machines are not on a domain.
The Samsung laptop has no power management software installed.

Yes, when you click on that link, the power options become available. However, the issue lies the inability to quickly change the power plan via the battery meter on the taskbar or the tile in the mobility center. These remain unavailable even after clicking that link.
Troublesome for the laptop, not a problem on the VMC.

I should also add that if I use the build in Admin account, this does not occur.
This also doesn't occur if I disable UAC, but I want to avoid doing that.

All in all, this is just a test to see if running this on an 8GB hard disk is practical. It would be nice to figure this out though. :)

Well, I went and downloaded the shortcuts from the guide. They work as long as I run them as an admin.

This issue is probably related to the fact that the OS is based off Windows Embedded. Might be wrong but that's my guess.

I guess I can just ignore the power plans. This is too small of an issue to waist time over.

Yeah, if you're using some sort of custom modified copy of Windows 7, then that is the issue. I wouldn't recommend using them since they could also contain malware that you or your security program may not know about.

I doubt that there's malware in this copy. Windows Thin PC is sort of like a barebones, really stripped down version of Windows. From what I read, it is the replacement for the WFLP OS. My guess is that for these versions of Windows, you install it and use it for a specific purpose(s) (on a legacy machine) or leave it alone (on an embedded system).

I already got rid of this OS and put Vista back on the laptop. For some strange reason, (could be just me) Vista seems faster than 7 on this laptop.

This might sound stupid, but I am however experiencing an issue with my home server, am I allowed to post about it in the networking section, or do I need to go find a Windows Home Server forum?
