i prefer to use my backup created with HDClone. anyway, thank you too.
    Do it.

Only one argument will go against it that most probably that backup you are talking about is made on a non sp1 system, and that is not a desired situation.

The latest hotfixes should be installed there, otherwise it leaves security holes.
not only there isn't SP1, but on that backup i haven't some programs istalled or think like that, becouse it's pretty old. I made it about 1 years agò... But if this is the only solution that work, i have to do it.

I suggested a repair install. Coz, it will remove all the errors of the installation. Suggested to download the ISO, coz it will contain SP1 inbuilt.

Restoration of the backup will work perfectly, but will not have the SP1 there, which is very important to have.

It's impossible! let me help to understand, pls. I restored my backup. I upgraded some programs. Everything worked fine. I decided to istall SP1 by the .exe that i have downloaded before. After the istallation, magically, the problems i had, reappear. It's seem there is no way to istall SP1 on my pc. But there is something more. On my pc there is also a partition with win xp: i use it only for emergency, like this. And guess what i have found? Now i have the SAME problems with vlc and desktop icons even there!! There's something wrong... any ideas?
