The loading cursor animation on my laptop freezes for some reason, does anyone know what could cause this?

FYI this is what it looks like:

What exactly is happening when it freezes? Does it completely cr@p out or is it just the cursor?

Just the loading animation freezes. Once it is frozen it stays like that until I restart my computer and then after about a minute it would freeze again.

No, the whole system doesn't lock up.

Switch mouse cursor themes. Boot. Test.

If problem solved, restore cursor theme. Boot. Test.

    Hello,

I believe I have the same problem as you regarding the freezing cursor. It looks as though you have a Dell computer, and from the chipset, it looks like a laptop.

From my research, I have determined that the ALPS Touchpad driver that Dell uses disables cursor animations. Looks like it has been a problem for quite a while with no fix (that I can find at least) available at this time.

I have tried updating my driver to no avail. I am sorry I couldn't be of more help, but at least you might have a good idea as to what might be wrong.

Yes, this is the conclusion I have come to as well! It's the Dell Touchpad software/driver. This is unfortunate since all the E6500 Dell Latitudes at work use this driver and some people want to disable tap-to-click and enable some gestures.

    Thank you for your response.
