file access issues

hello. i am using windows 7 build 7100 and i am having some file access issues. i had an old dell laptop that i pulled the hard drive out of to get some files off of it. but to get to my documents on the old hdd that was using win xp sp1 i think, i had to take ownership of the hdd. but since then i have not been able to access my documents on the windows 7 computer. i have already looked at all of the settings under properties-security and they are all set to let the admin access all files as usual. any help would be greatly appreciated

it says access is denied after i try to make any changes whatsoever to any file that is locked in my documents

Use "Everyone" instead of Administrator, or use your actual Windows Username.

Alright when you took Ownership of the drive, did you check "Replace owner on subcontainers and objects"? And then when you changed the permissions did you check "Replace all child object permissions with inheritable permissions from this object"?

i have no clue if i checked the first one and i dont remember seeing or clicking any child permissions thingie because i wouldve thought that was funny

This might help you, Do this inside Windows 7.
1. Right Click the file you want to access, Select Properties
2. In the Security tab, Click on the Continue button
3. In the new window, Click on the Add button
4. Click on the Advanced Button,
5. In the new Window, Clcik Find Now
6. Double click the User/Administrator that you want to give the permissions to(The Admin should be the Windows 7 Admin)
7. Then when you are redirected to Users or Groups Window, Select OK.
8. Then back in the Permissions Window, Tick the Full Control(or any type of permission level that you want to apply) using the Permission Settings below, Select OK,
again OK.

I have tried this and I included "Everyone" as the user group and give full access to the file. But funny thing is, I can assign "Everyone" ownership to some files but not to others. It would ask me to close the properties window before I can make permission changes. I did not and the "Everyone" group I thought I assgned does not show inside the "Group or User name" panel. And the file is a common user generated file, it appears no different from other files inside the same folder. WEIRD!
