Windows 7 won't run on my Toshiba laptop.

    Hi,
I am hoping for some advice / assistance in getting my laptop going.
I have a Toshiba Satellite A500 that was preinstalled with Windows 7 home premium.
Went to turn it on today and got a screen that said:
    Windows Error recovery.
    Windows failed to start.
A recent hardware or software change might be the cause.
It then gives the option to run windows start up repair or run windows normally.

The repair option starts but ends up with a grey back ground screen and a mouse arrow on the screen.
Nothing else happens after this .

I tried the start Windows normally option but it gets as far as the Windows logo and no further.

The only recent change has been the addition of a new modem / router, other then that it has been business as usual with no changes.

Unsure where to go from here.

    Any suggestions gratefully received.

Hiyya and welcome ggms Now mate what have you got on the machine because I recently had a similar problem and it happened when I changed the RAM in it. So have you actually done nay hardware changes lately and don't forget even stuff like new keyboard mouse etc.

I have also had two Toshiba laptops and both have been nothing but trouble and the current one I have had to factory default five times because of hardware issues. If you have backed up your data that could be an option albeit not appealing.

Hi thanks for the reply, nothing has changed on the machine. Using the same mouse as always, same printers.
This is the third Toshiba I have had and I have had issues with all of them.

I will try the links you have sent but it's a bit tricky reading detailed instructions on an iPhone.

I have managed to get the cmd menu up though but not sure what to do with it.

    Thanks for your help.

    Hi Greg,
    Thanks for the link.
I have got as far as trying to get the computer to run in safe mode by using F8.
It starts loading the drivers then stops, shows please wait, and back to the windows , all tried last known good start but it just shows starting Windows to no avail.

Then continue with the other steps. You may need to disinfect it at boot before it will repair.

Hi, still working on this. I was asked if I had added any new hardware and said no but I was incorrect.

I tried to use an external USB card reader that I have been told by others that have used them in my company, may cause problems.

When trying to boot in safe mode the computer loads the drivers but stops at : classpnp.sys.

I am wondering this may have caused the problem.

Don't know ggms as I am not that savvy enough on those things but a quick Google of the error put up this Windows 7 fails to go into safe mode. Stuck at classpnp.sys
    &
    Another classpnp.sys problem

These come from a Google -
    Google

Hope there is something in there that might steer you in the right direction.
