UPDATE: I've managed to successfully install Windows 7 again, but all my files are in a folder that I am unable to access called 'Windows.old'. If someone could help me to get round the protection that would be great. Going into the security tab is no help because apparently no administrative user has permission to view the security properties.

UPDATE2: Found a way around it. Just needed to enter in 'c:\windows.old\Users', the problem only occurs when trying to access it via 'My Computer'. Everything is sorted now; thanks for your help! It still bugs me not knowing what caused the problem.

If you want to restore from that folder, check out my tutorial on it:
