win7 will not boot after power failure

I tried a boot repair a second time and it said it could not find any errors, but the system will still not boot (same original problem)

Any pointers would be most appreciated.

Are you able to login under Safe Mode?

I don't know if your suggestion should have said anything different than 'Startup Repair could not detect a problem' three times, but I unplugged 2 external usb drives that are bitlocker encrypted, and my usb bluray drive and the system booted up. plugged the usbs back in again when windows was running, let the system detect them and rebooted. all seems fine.
