Ok, download and merge the REG file below, then restart the computer to see if it may help. It removes the registry entries for the Network and Control Panel desktop icons, and will hopefully remove them from your desktop.
Brink it did not work and I really find that odd.
Odd. As a test, create a new administrator account and log on to it to see if these shortcuts are on it's desktop as well. If not, then you might consider using the new account instead, and just copying any shortcuts, files, etc... from your old account to the new one.
Tried this to no avail. I just give up. It's really not hurting anything.
Well, as a last ditch effort, you could try doing a system restore using a restore point (if available) dated before this happened to hopefully remove them.
