Computer not fully shutting down after SP1 update

Hey all. I'm hoping you can help me with my issue. Any time I go to the windows start menu to shut off the PC, windows will shut off but leave the fans and LEDs (probably the hardware as well) on and running. I can of course just flick the power switch and it will shut off, and I can also turn the PC off manually by simply holding the power switch, but it would be nice if windows would just shut the computer off. I am fairly positive this isn't a hardware issue even though I did just get a new system as this issue was not happening until Windows updated to service pack 1. It may have been one of the other updated that went with it, but I think SP1 may be the culprit.
    System is as follows:
    • AS Rock Extreme 4 Z77
    • i5 3570
    • Gigabyte GTX 670
    • 16GB G-Skill RAM "F3-1600C9D-16GXM"
    • M4 Corsair 256 GB SSD (Boot Drive)

This also affects "Sleep Mode". Little less than a week ago, putting the PC in sleep mode would shut off everything and if I booted it back up I would be at my desktop, but that no longer works after that string of updates. I am not Overclocking at all.

Try System Restore to before you installed the Updates. Then install the Updates singly or in small groups until you hit upon the group/Update which causes the issue, Restore again to isolate the Update, post it back.

If System Restore fails, view Installed Updates to uninstall the ones in the group which caused the problem.

So, I restored the PC and it was not using the Nvidia Graphics driver. The PC detected drivers for my hardware and preceded to install the Nvidia driver. Before the driver was installed the PC shut down normally, but after the Nvidia driver was installed, it did not shut down normally.

Try another driver provided by optional Windows Updates after enabling Automatically get recommended drivers and updates for your hardware, then if necessary from the Nvidia website set to autodetect and also in normal search mode.

If necessary go back to an older driver to see if it affects the issue. All installed drivers are cued at Device Manager>Display>Update driver>Browse>Let me Pick. You'll need to find a driver that works with sleep.

Check also the settings in Device Manager under Display driver>Power Management to disable wake timers and wake on alert. Are there any other settings available?

I only have Display adapters in Device Manager.

Another thing to mention and it doesn't seem to just be me with the problem, but my GTX 670 does not work in the PCIE 3.0 slot but it does work in the one below it. Reading up, I have a feeling that the AS Rock and the newer Nvidia GPUs do not work so well together. Do you think I should just RMA the motherboard and get a different one?

What does this mean? I know you have a Display adapter in Device Manager. I suggested you Update it and told you how to do that. Why would you reply with that?

What driver is there now? What is the latest driver available for your Nvidia Display device model?

    Lan Card?

Be sure and check this. I had one that wouldn't completely shutdown and this fixed it.
Go start --> Control Panel --> Device Manager --> Network Adapters --> Power Manage
Make sure the "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" is checked.
If you have a home net and us WOL the other two boxes can be checked. If you do not have a home network I would leave them unchecked.

I don't know what you mean by Power Management in Device Manager. I am unable to find it. Anyway, that's not my problem right now anyway. The GPU will not be detected when I put it in the upper GPU slot which is a PCIE 3.0 slot. I have a feeling that this motherboard and the newer Nvidia GPUs don't work well together.
I think I may just RMA the motherboard and get a new one unless anyone else has any ideas.
