Computer does not fully shut down or go to sleep

My laptop occasionally does not completely shut down/sleep/hibernate. It goes through all the steps up to where the screen turns off, but I can tell the computer doesn't turn off because the power button stays lit up as well as the lighted keyboard.

Laptop originally had Vista 64bit installed before Windows 7 64bit

Try running the command powercfg -lastwake from a command prompt.

    This may help:

To diagnose the problem, create a power report. To do this, follow these steps:

    * In the Search programs and files box, Type cmd.
    * Right-click CMD, and then click Run as administrator.
    * At the command prompt, type powercfg -Energy -output c:\temp\energy.html, and then press ENTER.
    * In the Temp folder, open the Energy-report.html file. This report uses a 60-second run. However, the report time is configurable.
