can not move and replace a file

    can not move and replace a file


    hi my friends.
    i changed thie file "sethc.exe" in system32 of my C drive. i used linux and set it to command promt and when i open it , command peomt will be opened.
    now i want to get it back to original. i get from my friend a copy of original sethc.exe of his system32...but when i want to move and replace the original sethc.exe it shows the eror below:
    you need permission to perform this action

    Do Option 2 of this tutorial SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker it will not harm any data or programs you have installed it will try to find and repair any corrupt system files that you have.

    To properly change a system file you need to take ownership give yourself permission and rename the old file and then copy in the new one look at Post #6 of this thread will tell you how to do it Basic Networking Information

    i have 2 questions :
    1- for full permission of all files can i do the method of you in 6th post "basic network information"?
    2- as you see in the picture below i have 3 usernames...what is the difference beetwen them?how can i understand which user i am using?

    I always use the User not the Administrator, so looking at yours I would use the second one down. Here is a screenshot of what I would use.

    1-what is the "system" user?
    2- i mean for example for .ocx .dat .ini files if they do not have full controll can we use your method to change the permission of them to full control?

    Yes anything you want to change that needs permission that would be a way to do it, make sure you keep a copy of the original so that it is not lost.
