How do I manually move icons in Windows Explorer?

My Folders and files are set on auto-sort (by name) and I can't figure out how to disable it. I want to arrange them in my own order.

Basically I folders A, B, and C and they're arranged in that order by name. I want to move folder A to the end like B, C, A. Of course I try to drag it over to the end but that cursor doesn't appear (the cursor that appears when you try to drag a file or folder inbetween another file/folder).

In Vista, I just need to move one file/folder out of the order and it disables auto-sort. But it doesn't work in Windows 7.

That functionality was removed. And to be honest I cannot see a point of it existing in the first place.

    Come on.

Everybody uses their tools differently. I wouild like the ability retained when I am preparing custom print jobs online. I want my photos in a certain order for printing (in photo books, posters or collages) and Windows 7 makes it a bit more tedious.

Wow, they seriously removed it? Why the hell would they remove something like that? It allowed more customization options and I don't see anything wrong with including it.

I liked having certain folders near the top... especially when you have hundreds of subfolders.

    Sigh.

I don't think you quite understand what the word "removed" means. It's gone, meaning you can't do it anymore. There's nothing to "fix" because it's not a bug, it's intended.
