up\down control for a number field problem

    hi there all
the last few weeks i spend time looking for fix of this problem with no luck

every time i reinstall windows it works fine
but after i finish personalising it
the up/down control keeps modifying the value by from 1 to 3 instead from 1 to 2
this happens only when i mouse click the arrows
the up/down arrow keys on the keboard work fine and the scroll too
the mouse doesnt double click on icons or anything else
i am using windows 7 Ultimate 32bit and this used to happend back in xp too
checked the whole control panel to find a solution and my tuneup too
on my lap top it works fine dont know why i do the same setting on both

Welcome to the Windows 7 Forum.
I don't really understand exactly what you mean so I have some questions.
    1. What does personalizing include?
    2. What up/down are you referring to? (Side Bar?)(1 to 3) ?
Thanks for filling in your specs.

    i ment this as up\down
it goes to 17 if i click the up arrow and 13 if i click the down arrow
and as personalise i mean things like remove the arrow on shortcuts
remove favorites and libraries in the windows explorer
    and such things

Sometimes those numbers setting will jump to balance out with other settings. That is normal. If you would like you can just type in the number you want. It works sometimes. Well I'm no expert on removing thing built in to Windows 7. Be careful. The little tinkering things we did with older Windows systems many times don't apply to Windows 7.

well i know it balances on some settings but this happens everywhere and it annoys me
it keeps happeing since windows xp and i cant figure out how i change that...
and about the removing fav and libraries its just simple registry editing in 2 dwords and giving your self permission to edit them of course i hate seeing things that i dont use
hope someone else on the forum find a way to help me 10x anyway

There was a similar problem reported at Bugzilla: Pressing up/down indicators in number boxes make values jump up/down randomly.

One suggestion (discounted) was it was caused by smooth-scrolling being turned off.
If this is on your desktop it may have different mouse settings than the laptop (touchpad?).

To help you further it would help if we knew what type of mouse/pointing device you are using, and the settings you are using at: Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Mouse Properties.

Also, make sure your device driver for the mouse is up to date, especially if you have been using the same set-up since XP.

well its not caused by smooth-scrolling it was on
and about the laptop i use a mouse that i used before on my desktop PC
it was labtec dunno details on it
now i use HP and both mice (hope that is plural for PC mouse too )
    my mouse settings are>
    buttons>button configuration>left click
double click speed> on the middle (default)
    click lock>off

pointers>enable shadow and allow themes to change pointers are off

pointer options> enchance pointer precision on and the slider on the middle
automaticali move pointer to the default button in a dialog box>off
    pointer trails>off
    hide mouse when typing>off
show location of pointer when i press ctrl>off

wheel> 3 lines for horisontal and vertical

and about drivers i never had any for them
i tested both mice on the laptop they work great

    Mouse settings look okay.

and about drivers i never had any for them
i tested both mice on the laptop they work great
Problem is they don't on this machine.
What would it hurt to track down, and install updated drivers?

I have to echo Layback's remarks:

There is something about your version of 7ULT on that machine if it acts okay up until you make your changes.
Favorites, and especially Libraries are an integral part of 7.

Have you tried running a SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker after you made the changes?

And considered using a third-party program to make your changes instead of you manipulating them manually?

well the registry tweaks i started not long ago
till then i used only tune up and the settings available from windows
till now i never messed up anything by using the registry
and even if i do i keep a nice backup of it
and about the command i didnt know that this existed (need to search the forum for simmilar commands)
i used it just now it didnt find any problems

anyway just a question on other topic what's the reason my PC never runs scan disk
on xp it used to do it after power failure or force restarts from the button till one day it stopped and windows reinstalls never changed that it just shows that system didnt start as usual and tells me to select safemode normal start or few other options but no scan disk
its not like i see any system problems or intability but i think its a nice windows tool after all it fixes system errors

about the drivers i will try to find them on the interenet but as i said in the first post after the reinstall it works fine till i finish system tweaks probably its some option i like that includes that but i cant find which one it is

EDIT: ok i checked for drivers and didnt find any
this is my mouse i think there are no drivers for it

    Okay on running the command.

Back in the day with XP, and especially 98 you had to run a CheckDisk before ScanDisk would run. Try that.

You may want to peruse this: Windows 7 - Tutorial Index

Yes, your mouse is listed as PnP, so HP is relying on MS to supply the drivers.
What about the Labtech you mentioned?
