    MBR with bad sectors

    Hi all,

i have read a lot of posts regarding fixing the MBR. I dont have a bootable CD..

my laptop, gigabyte Q1500m, only boots in safe mode, after pressing F8. the normal boot takes me to a windows 'reparing error' screen, and after sometime it says that this error cannot be fixed. if this screen does not appear during the second boot, i get the BSOD, does a memory dump, then shuts down.

after a CHKDSK is run, there are 8KB found in bad sectors. my friend said these
sectors are where the MBR is kept..bad one!
I have played around with mbrfix, but cant seem to fix or move or re-create the
MBR. (i've tried mbrfix /drive 0...etc, it says fixed, but it's not fixed...same issues)

    anyone help? MUCH APPRECIATED!!
    C

Others may disagree or have a better solution but I think the easiest thing to do is get a bootable Windows 7 DVD and then restore the "bootsector code" of the MBR that will allow you to begin booting to Windows 7 again.

You can obtain an official ISO version of Windows 7 from here. Download the ISO and save it to a convenient location like your desktop. Then burn it to a DVD. You need fo download the exact version currently on your machine (Home Premium 32-bit, Professional 64-bit, etc.)

Once you have the bootable media you can follow the instructions here to restore the bootsector code.

As always I recommend at a minimum creating a system restore point or better yet, a system image "just in case".

If the suggestion of marsmimar somehow is not able to get the MBR back , you may need to do something extra to make your system bootable again .

But, as he is suggested, it is always better to have the dvd. It is a must download.
