Yep, Bitlocker is only available on Ultimate - TrueCrypt is indeed the other good alternative, but whole drive encryption can be a tricky business.

What do you mean whole drive encryption can be tricky? I'm fixing to attempt doing just that!

    Hi,

We have seen a few issues where the header of the encrypted volume got corrupted, and wasn't able to be fixed - this means the entire installation, and the data on the disk, is permanently lost since Truecrypt doesn't provide a "backdoor" to rescue the encrypted volume. Perhaps a better choice of words is that whole disk encryption is risky, instead of tricky.

Perhaps Trauma you might be better off looking at a Self Encrypting Drive?

So it's safe to assume that encrypting individual directories is not so much of a problem then? What about folders used by programs?

I'm skimming TRUECRYPT - Encrypt Data Folders just wondering if its a headache in reality or not?
