Windows 7: BOOTMGR is compressed. Can't use CD's

21 Aug 2012   #21

Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit

I used the command prompt and typed in the commands and it's working now!
Thanks for the help everyone!
What I basically did was bash all of the F keys when it was starting then the Setup started.

Compressed system and boot files

In case anybody stumbles upon this situation in the future this thread really didn't answer the question.
The owner of this thread said that nothing on his pc was working; cd, flash, usb, alien spaceship lazer. He did however state that he has two computers. Before we get into this to deep I will say that I too have fallen victim to the bootmgr compressed idiot thing as well.
If you have access to another working computer thats the fastest and simplest way to fix your hdd is to pull it out of your pc and make it a slave in your other pc and uncompress it from your other computer. In fact any problem exist in one, taking it out and problem solving it in the other( if the bios doesn't give you a clue.)
I wasn't able to do this as I only have one pc and to embarress to ask anyone(I know, I know). I also couldn't get my cdrom to work either as the driver was probably compressed or some other witches curse that didn't make it work.
There were definitly some good answers here. Another thing that we all need to do is when we install our OS or even buy it at a store, make sure your OS is only installed on 20% of your hdd. That means you do not want your c: to take up the entire amount of space that your hdd can hold. If your hdd is 200gb your only want c: to be 40gb the rest make a d:. If you buy a computer or laptop that takes up the entire c: make them change it to the right way. People will argue with us about that. I even have seen computer professors get things wrong from time to time.

This is what I had to do.
Went out and bought another hdd(yes I am cheap so I bought a used one for $20) downloaded a linux UI for free. Put in my pc. booted and uncompressed my hdd from my other hdd.
Just to know I had purchased an ultimate boot cd online with some black magic on it too and of course it didn't work cause my cd wouldn't read anything.
Hope this helps
