    Scanner File Size

Hi, when I scan a document the file size reads 12,181kb, when I attach the document to an e-mail the file size reads 11.8MB, I have set the scanner settings as PDF searchable, and the file is too big to send via e-mail. Please advise.

My operating system is Windows 7 Home Premium.
My printer is a HP All-in-one OfficeJet J4680

Some tips to make the scanned image smaller:

    - save the file as JPG or GIF rather than TIFF or BMP. With JPG, play with compression values - if you're scanning text you can get an amazingly small file that's still readable (but may have JPG artifacts).
    - Resize (decrease the number of pixels) the scanned image with irfanview, photoshop or some MS software; or similarly -
    - change the DPI of the scan. 300DPI is a typical default and is usually a lot more dots than you need, depending on what you're doing.

If you just want to view the scanned PDF file on a computer, change the DPI to 72. The file size will be much smaller.
To print the scan set the scan to 150 DPI for better quality.
300 DPI is only use for high quality printing where more detail is needed.
