Disk managment - trying to shrink C drive but it's stuck @ 150g?

Ok I have a 300g hard drive that I want to split into 2 main partitions, roughly 100g for the OS & 200g for a separate media section.

For some reason & can't shrink the C drive any smaller than 152g, yet there is only 16g worth of actual data used? (just from win7 OS, there is nothing else on the computer yet)

There is 145g worth of unallocated space that I will use to create the new partition once I can shrink C down more.

Why would it be limiting me from shrinking it further & how do I get the C drive down another 52g?

    Thanks.

I believe you can't shrink more because you are using Windows Disk Management while Windows is running.
Some files are unmovable while Windows is running.
You need to use a bootable disk management tool such as Partition Wizard to shrink "C:" the way you want to.

Take a look at this tutorial - Partition Wizard : Use the Bootable CD

Wait for a more experienced expert to give definite advice...

Use some 3rd party freeware software which will automatically reboot your pc/laptop in Dos environment and complete the process there, you may use Free Download Magic Partition Manager freeware: EaseUS Partition Manager, Disk & Partition Copy and Partition Recovery Software.

I've no affiliation with the company or program

Whatever you do. Make an image of your current system before using these tools. They have been known to fail and leave you with a corrupted windows.

Use the Partition Wizard as David said and you should be good to go. You might Defrag the drive before you try to shrink.

Here you go Johnny: Partition Wizard Resize Partition Video Help.

Use only the Partition Wizard boot disk as it never fails while all others but Disk Mgmt can and will fail with data loss.
