Hi Guys -- I have a SSD for my OS and Programs. The HDD I have for my Docs is four years old and I need to replace it before it dies on me. Do any of you have your Docs on a SSD? Is their a noticeable time difference in your Docs being accessed? Thanks,
I bought my SSD about 18 months ago.
For a couple of months, I kept certain docs on the SSD, on the assumption that might help access speed.
As it turned out, keeping docs on both my SSD and my HDD complicated my backup strategy, so I gave up and put them all back on the HDD.
But I do recall being underwhelmed by the improvement. Hardly noticeable in my case.
Not to mention the size problem---my SSD would hold only a small fraction of my total data---although ALL of my "docs" (text files, Word, Excel) would have fit.
I often think that it's sort of a waste of the SSD to use for data files. You can for sure, but since they're rarely read, you won't notice a big difference (contrary to the whole OS and programs, which gets accessed every time). Considering that SSDs are extremely expensive in comparison with HDD and their size, I would keep all data on a normal disk if available, and use SSD for what can profit the most from it.
