Did someone give you a copy on Windows 7 on a CD and if so where did you get the Licence Key that you have now lost?
Having just read your post again. if your PC came with Vista installed and you prefer that anyway why do you not re install Vista?

You have to find and download an iso file of Vista ( the version you originally had ) then burn it to a dvd.

Then use Gregs tutorial to install it.

Download and follow the steps given in this link to compile a Vista ISO to burn to DVD using ImgBurn at 4x speed: Vista ISO download - Vista Forums

Then follow the steps in my Clean Reinstall tutorial posted earlier to get a perfect reinstall.

I explained how you can get the Win7 key out of the previous Win7 installation although you ignored it. Why do you ask questions which were already clearly answered?

    gregrocker said:

If this is retail Win7 and you lost the key, then you needed to audit the Win7 Product Key from the old installation it was installed upon before overwriting it with a new install.

Do you have a backup image of your old install which was activated with the Product Key?

If not then you'll have to buy a new key because the Product Key is required to reinstall.
You just finished saying you prefer to have Vista, so I provided you with the Vista installer ISO. You ignore this and ask about Win7 again. Which is it?

is that computer still in use? if so then you can't use that licence key for a second machine.

unfortunately without a valid licence we can't help.

OK lets get things straight here. There seems to be some confusion as to what you want to do.
Lets look at Windows 7 first. I think the facts are as follows:
Someone has copied a Windows 7 install disc to a CD and given it to you. Nothing wrong with this just suffice to say you can download as many Windows 7 ISO images and burn them to CD as you wish. What you now need is the Licence key and you are looking for a way to get that from the other machine! Is that correct?
Vista. Your machine had Vista preinstalled when you bought it? Is that correct? If so the Licence key for your Vista version will be on a sticker on the underside of a laptop or on the side of the tower on a desktop!
You can download the ISO image for your Vista version from Microsoft free of cahrge. Then you can burn the image to a CD for installing.
