    Dell inspiron processor trouble:/

I went under run to msconfig, and i went to boot, then advanced settings, then i switched the number of processors from 1 to 4. I forgot why, but i switched the processor number back to one and now, i cant switch it back to 4 because it doesnt show up. Can anybody help with a simple solution cause im kind of a computer noob when it comes to that. I really need help, my computers so slow now.

You are doing a complete re-boot after each time you change the settings?

It probably has to do with the check box just above the # of processors, but it should be 1. You only have 1 processor. You may have 4 cores, but it is 1 processor.

I get that, but at one point it showed four instead of one. I never had less than four until recently when i switched it back to one on accident. The number of processors should say four.

Windows will by default use all cores during boot up. Un check the box and put 1. 1 is the correct number of processors.

There was a time when i had four. 4 processors. but something happened that made it stay at one. Is there any way to get it so it can be four again? because it did have four.

Please see the info section on top and #4 in this tutorial. Processors - Limit Number Used by Windows 7

The section of msconfig you are talking about is only there to limit the number of cores. Windows, by default will use all cores in a processer, with 1.

Users would be better off to never look at Advanced options on the Boot tab in msconfig.

Even with a dual core processor, it will show 4 processors. Don't get confused between cores and processors.

If you just want to see the number 4, maybe a system restore will bring it back.
