    Black screen after startup

    Hello!

I have windows 7 Ultimate Service Pack 1 installed, for like 3-4 months now.

Today I turned my Asus laptop on and after "Starting Windows" process, weird black screen appeared. Only working thing was mouse cursor, Ctrl + alt + delete did nothing. However, I was still able to use Safe Mode, even with networking. I googled my problem and found the following solution: reseting shell from registry - didn't work (everything was alright there).

Hey, thank you for your reply! To be honest, I was going to, but I've never tried it before. Will it cause any data loss?

Here's how I fixed it: Tried to access safe mode, after loading screen it froze for some reason and I turned laptop off. Then I turned it on again, pressed f8 several times, and chose "Repair Your Computer". Then there were like four options, one of them was something like this: Fix startup problems. I clicked on it and it took 2-3 hours to finish. Laptop restarted 2 times during that process. It caused no data loss. Thanks for your replies Carl Lawrence, I'll mark this as solved. :)

    Hi

I bought new Asus laptop K53SM, I also have windows 7 and facing the same problem, I thought it wasn't a problem and may be some windows update which cause the blank screen to come at the time of start up, it is really annoying but thanks to you, I haven't tried your method, I will do it soon.
