Windows 7 will not start...startup repair does nothing

I have a Toshiba Satellite that started freezing up after some windows updates. It would run fine in safe mode but now it gets stuck on the windows startup screen. If I choose startup repair it just keeps searching. I had tried to restore when in safe mode but the omputer old me it. Could not find restore point. I have been trying to backup files that I needed before doing a factory restore but now I am lost....Help!

Hello Atripodi and welcome to Seven Forums.

From Safe Mode can you uninstall those Windows Updates? If yes, does computer resume normal operation (no freezes)? If computer still has problems after uninstalling Windows Updates you could try running a system file checker scan in Safe Mode. Use an elevated command prompt (option two.) If problems are found run the scan 3 times rebooting in between each scan.

SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

I can't get windows to boot. It gets stuck on start up screen and startup repair just sits there with black screen and curser. I left it overnight but it did nothing.

One of the Forum experts prepared this troubleshooting guide. Or, your computer may have a hidden recovery partition that would restore it to factory specs. All personal data would be lost. Or, you could try running a Repair Install which should preserve your user accounts, data, programs, and system drivers.
