    Photoviewer - how to uninstall?

    Hi All,

    Looked all over for a cure, but none found so far.

    The situation;

    I have a Canon Powershot. It has a 16GB SDHC card - which the reader on my Dell 2407FP does not recognize. No driver updates available either.

    Therefore, I plug the camera directly into a desktop USB port to view photos. Irfanview is my default image editor BUT when I click a pic in explorer the default is to Preview (not Open) and this function is automatically performed by (ugh) Photoviewer - which is possibly the worst slowest most cumbersome image prog ever foisted upon the public at large. This driving me over the edge!

    How can I disable /remove Photoviewer from my life?

    Have you tried:

    Right Click the photo >> Open with >> Choose default program >> select the application you want to open the file with and make sure the check box 'Always use the selected program to open this kind of file' is checked.

    Click OK and the photo's with that file extension should always open with the program you selected.

    Although i have never had an image with Windows Photo Viewer (if that's what you are referring to) :)

    Thanks but yes, I have followed that routine.

    Irfanview is the default to OPEN image files, but when browsing from a folder, image operations default to Preview, not Open. This is the key point.

    So in order to operate on images with Irfanview, I must right-click every single one and open it in a separate Irfanview window, browsing the folder is not possible. This is extremely tedious.

    I guess I could just stand back and throw money at the problem, but why can't I just uninstall Photoviewer?
