Trying to go from Vista 32 to Win 7 64

Will Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium w/SP1 64-bit-System Builder License and Media - 1 PC take me from Vista 32 to Win 7 64?

With so many Win 7 products, upgrades its confusing. I onyl need to take 1 computer from vista 32 to Win 7 64. I'm trying to not buy the wrong item and waste $90.00.

    Thanx in advance.

What are your computer specs? If you have more than 2GB of RAM, x64 is the better choice. If you have less than 2 GB of RAM, you NEED to upgrade to x32 W7. You could just do this, the easiest way.

My PC is WIN 7 x64 ready. I just need to know if the above product will allow me to go from Vista 32 to Win 7 64. I'm inquiring about the product and if it does what i need it to.

It will allow it, but you'd have to do a Clean Install because you cannot upgrade x32 to x64. But I'm not completely sure that will upgrade it to x64. It might just upgrade to x32. Let me research and see what I can find.

It'll allow you to install Win 7. The old OS is irrelevant; you can use the System Builder copy on a blank hard drive. As it's not permitted to perform an upgrade-in-place from 32 bit windows to 64, you may as well backup the OS drive and reformat it.

In principle, a System Builder license is supposed to be used only on a system intended for resale:

Is it OK to use OEM Windows on your own PC? Don't ask Microsoft | ZDNet

As far as I know, there is no enforcement of this. Newegg sells system builder licenses without any bundled hardware requirements.

Yes it will. Your files will all be deleted and programs will too. So make sure you have a back up.

You must boot the installer to install 64 bit over 32 bit. How to Boot your Computer from a Bootable CD or DVD

During a Custom install choose Drive Options to delete all partitions, repartition as you wish, format and begin install. Illustrated steps here: Clean Install Windows 7
