Slow access with Win 7 Ultimate

I got Win 7 Ultimate installed form scratch after a format and I even
installed proper mobo drivers in order to get everything right but

1/ Each time I access an harddisk other than the one where the OS is on
I have to wait +/- 10 seconds in order have access to what on the disk.
Win seven like freeze for seconds and I can hear the harddisk beginning to
    accelerate. Very frustrating!

    How come ?

2/ Sometimes, when I'm writing something I got the same problem, win seven
makes me wait severa seconds before the text I already typed is showing ?!

What could be the reason for this ?

I had the same mate. Do the following...

Go into your Screen Saver settings and click on CHANGE POWER SETTINGS.
On the selected power plan click on CHANGE PLAN SETTINGS.
Now click on CHANGE ADVANCED POWER SETTINGS.
In the window that appears, click on the small + sign next to HARD DISK. This will expand to show TURN OFF HARD DISK AFTER. Click on the + next to that. Then change the default 20 minutes to NEVER. Apply then Okay etc.etc.

Now you should find that your hard drives don't go to sleep. So when you access them, there should be a minimal delay.
