Windows 7: Windows 7 Perceived Bugs & Glitches List

09 Oct 2010   #111

Windows 10 Pro x64 x3, Ubuntu

I've had this type of issue on windows systems in a corporate environment for years and the best solution I have found for it is the simple one - all these unwanted folders and icons are actually objects somewhere in the file system, and it's normally possible to set the object's hidden attribute and possibly the system one as well (for those who run with show hidden checked). The object is still there so the system does not re-create it but the user does not see it so is happy, (ish I know just knowing it's there can be frustrating)

I've set up many systems over the years for beginners where the hidden attribute being set on all folders in the system drive tree, that the beginner users does not need to see, has been a large contributor to the longevity of the system.

If you don't see it, it does not cause an issue IMO

Windows 7 Ultimate x64 SP1 clean install

USRobotics 5423 (Wireless USB NIC 802.11g) doesn't work properly with Vista drivers (7 drivers not available).
Often when you boot up your PC, USRobotics 5423 seems connected to wireless network but after few minutes it disconnects. You have to unplug and replug the device UNTIL it connects.
Switching to Sitecom WL-608 solved the problem.

Win 7 Ultimate 32bit

Just a friendly suggestion....

If it were up to me I would change the title of this thread or close it.
The large majority of posts that end up in this thread are not actual Windows 7 Bug related issues.
They are for the most part, 3rd party bugs, compatibility, functionality or issues on a users system.
It becomes a misleading thread where people may post here instead of a proper forum to get actual help with their issue. They could be mislead/mis-directed in their search for a resolution.

Most people have no idea what a real bug is. And Threads like this on any forum do not help the end users in any way.

Win 7 Ultimate x64

Fundamental Desktop Problems !!!!!!

Windows 7 cant remember the size and position of it windows - open several, size them differently, move them to separate places on the screen and then close them. Now try opening them again - they will all be back to original size and position - NG - no excuse for this - even XP could remember window size and position. But the "Windowmanger" addon fixes this nicely.

I'm also annoyed that I cant turn off the "navigation pane" on a folder by folder basis - its all or none - sort of stinks.

Windows 7 Ultimate x64
An Error

When i try to use for example, changing the time, if i try to scroll down on anything on here that is directly connected to windows 7, it scrolls to the top when i move my mouse. I've tried everything i could think of to fix it, but nothing works, not even a mouse from a different company, so that can't be it. Please help, thanks.

Windows 7 Home Premium - 64bit

Sometimes when Windows 7 starts-up one or two directory wimdows will have no address bar.

To open a directory window with an address bar, when the address bar is missing.
1; Click menu over an empty area of the directory window.
2; Click on Properties.
3; Click on the 'Previous Versions' tab.
(This tab is not displayed in some directory windows, but seames to always be displayed in windows that open without an address bar)
Usually there is a list of recently opened directories,
but when a directory opens without an address bar it may just list that directory.
4; Double click on the directory icon for this directory to open it.
5; You can then close the properties window and directory with no address bar.

Hopefully Microsoft will fix the 'No address bar' bug in future versions.

Windows 7 has a TON OF BUGS they need to work out. For example, almost all of the everyday things that I like to download, like Java, will not work on here. Microsoft needs to develope a lot of patches that will make my Vista software and hardware work on Windows 7.
