1) I can assure you that this is not a Windows Bug.
You may have an app that does a screen refresh,, this would b similar to Microsoft Communicator in XP. It refreshes the entire screen re-aligning all icons to the left side of the screen. This also happens on Dual Screen setups and throws all icons to Screen One on the left. Yes, this is annoying, but not a Windows bug. For me, I blame Communicator, but may not be a bug per se, I have not really looked into it. There may be a real reason for why it does it and not a bug.

2) Not a Windows Bug. This will be (in my opinion) a compatibility issue with the 32bit apps you are running in a 64bit environment. I have ran a ton of 32bit apps in a 64bit Windows and not experienced this issue. No, I don't know why you are having the problem, but this is not a direst Windows Bug.

It's one of several Microsoft created folders that will be in your list of favorites when you open IE for the first time. The others like "Radio Station Guide" you can delete and they never come back. This one just won't go away. Right now it's empty, but it might have had a couple of links in it originally. I seem to remember deleting them in an attempt to get rid of this folder.

It is not a bug it is a feature. It is that way on Purpose.

Notification Area Icons for programs you have uninstalled don't get removed from the "Select which icons and notifications appear on the taskbar" window. It's debatable whether its windows or the program that is at fault, but I have yet to see any program, even a Microsoft one, remove the icon when you uninstall it.

Is due to the nature of the Registry key that holds this information and the way MS designed it to not be used in a specific manner by 3rd party developers to clutter up the Systray Icons. This was done again, on purpose.

If you want to Clear The Notification Icons Cache to get rid of the old Icons that may still reside there. Click the link I provided.

"Desktop" toolbar has 2 Control Panel icons in it, and if you delete one or both they just come back again.

Can you elaborate on this?

Favorites Bar > Some feature ? I've personally never found a use for it., Why would I want a favorites folder in my favorites folder? And why let you delete it in the first place if you are only going to put it back when I'm not looking? Would it be so hard to give an option to turn it off like the actual Favorites Bar itself?

Notification Area Icons > Could you elaborate on how that functionality "prevents" clutter in the notification area? As far as I can see it doesn't stop Icons from being added by programs, it just locks them in there forever and a day, making that area cluttered with non functional icons?

Desktop Toolbar > Right click on your taskbar, go to toolbars, and put a check mark next to "Desktop". Then have a look at the toolbar now on your taskbar, it will have 2 control panel icons in it. Why? Its been like that since the first beta.

No one said those were well-designed, thought out, or perfect. But they aren't bugs.

So two control panel icons in the same toolbar is by design? Care to explain to me what the difference is between the two or why two are needed? It's not my intent to be argumentative but come on, are you seriously going to tell me that was done on purpose? I would also like to know why icons for un-installed programs should be left behind? Its poor house keeping plain ans simple, they serve NO purpose.

Then you need to actually find a number to Microsoft and talk to them about it.. Sorry, it is what it is.

That's what lead me to this site. I forget what the first build I had was but it was present way back then. It really used to bug the hell out of me seeing 2 icons. I think they did it deliberately. I agree with alphanumeric. It's ridiculous and should have been fixed.

Ok,, here is your perfectly executed Windows Analisys for the Desktop Toolbar Control Panel Icons and Favorits Folder and Notifications Icons Area

Because, they are catering the stupid people who don't know any better to right click on the Menu Expanded Icon and Click Open. So they added just an Open Control Panel Icon.

Now you have a choice. One or the other.

Why do they come back if you delete them.

Because idiot users will moan and complain that they can't find something because they deleted it and all of a sudden they decide they want it back but can't figure out how to do it.
So, to err on the side of caution they made iot so they come back. Same with the Favorits folder. It's concidered a Windows Specific Folder that should alsways be there.

As for the Notifications Area Icons. There is information out on the net for as to why it is the way it is.
Also, the nature of the Reg Key String is such that it can not be edited by a mere uninstall application.
It is the way it is, MS themselves I am sure will explain it better.

IT IS NOT A BUG. And therefore really does not belong in this thread.

To further elaborate on the Notifications Icons list

Go to this Reg Key

Code:

You will see a very long Binary line that is probably more complicated than it needs to be to edit out that string to remove said uninstalled icon.

But again, this is not a bug, it is by design as MS does not want 3rd party software vendors to be able to manipulate this string for thier own purposes. They are trying to leave that control more to the user than the software vendor.
