Win 7 availability once Win 8 launches?

I'm hoping that Windows 7 disappears as quickly as possible. I think it is a load of *** (supply your own four-letter word; I haven't used, or even thought of one, to avoid being sued).
I've been told by an IT expert that if I cannot get on with 7 I will hate 8.
I cannot use the Libraries (why are they there? Windows XP didn't have them), and SkyDrive has me going round in circles. "Cannot open e-mails, an error has occurred", "Cannot send e-mail, an error has occurred" "Delete the photo e-mail, create a new one, and try to send it". (Error 0x8CCC0002) TRY to send it? Does it mean ". . . if you can"?

PS: If Windows 7 is so good why do Microsoft include a Windows XP Mode? No one I have spoken to likes 7. And I thought XP was doomed to stop existing in a couple of months. No support, etc.

^ No, XP is definitely on its way out at this point. I think officially they will retire ALL support for it in January 2014. There are no more service packs. Bare bones releases to deal with security risks are few and far between.

Windows Vista was not "one of the worst OS's Microsoft did", not by a long shot. You're parroting from early Vista troubles. Microsoft fixed them, but the reputation was unfortunately tarnished at that point. Vista SP2 is functionally just as good as W7, except for slightly less efficiency when it comes to battery life on laptops. I've been using Vista for almost 6 years now and it has been basically trouble free.


I'm just wondering if Microsoft will make an inexpensive upgrade to W7 for anyone wanting it, once W8 is officially released. You'd figure they'd want to continue milking that cow for as long as possible.

Better consider the move from XP to Vista, when XP remained a long more time.
Nevertheless, it don't matters that much anyway. Once you manage to get the disc, Win7 will function normally as always did. And for the keys, MS will for sure have online stores for buying them if you need more, most likely.

Vista was far from the worst! The support for Vista and MS making the big goober of unstating the actual minimum system requirements allowing OEMs to slip past selling new machines with only 512mb of memory was the real problem. But Windows grew in size as well as MS removing Fat support now returned again with 7 for digital devices as well as exFat often seen on external drives made Windows/Mac compatible, Usb flash drives shipped with Fat, etc..

XP was the far more problematic OS with MS rushing it out following the ME flop leaving much to be fixed. SP3 finally saw over 1,000 goobers fixed but too late since 7 was already here to stay!

Don't know about Vista. I looked (in a newspaper advert) at the specifications and decided it was too home media (DVDs and TV shows, etc) orientated for me to waste any money on. I wanted something serious for making DVDs, running websites, etc.
Ironically, I hated XP at first and couldn't get used to it. But gradually I worked it out and now wish it was the main Microsoft OS.
Here's an idea: make Windows 9 (or Windows 10 if I'm too late) into a properly working version of XP and give all people who bought Windows 7 a free (or nominal cost) version. After all, I don't know how much I paid for Windows 7 Home Premium, it came with a new computer, but I had to pay a further £120 just afterwards for a professional version in order to access XP Mode. I think I have more than paid for a free revived XP masquerading as Windows 9 or 10 !

Right from the start I found Vista to be far more stable as well as bringing an improved crash control method usually when some game blue screened on you from a looping sound in the game itself. With XP hard boots were the common for the same while Vista was able to recover the desktop.

Compatibility issues with some programs is what you always have to expect with any newer version while the 32bit 7 was the plus for being far more backward compatible then it's predacessor Vista! I'm talking about running with XP drivers on a 32bit 7 install for an old Socket case with a pair of 512mb DDR 333 PC2700 memory and all went well. That included a 128mb AGP card an old GeForce FX5200 and Realtek onboard sound for XP.

SP1 was needed for Vista while SP3 was llllonggggg overdue for XP! 7 hardly even needed any SP to begin with having far fewer bugs to work out. Once MS realized that Vista was Windows growing too big the MinWin kernel became the working solution seen in 7.

Now as far 2gb of memory you will find that even with XP when going from 512 or 1gb upto 2gb bam! what a difference! You ended up seeing a hugh performance leap. Vista ran well here with 2gb installed until the larger dimms came out leaving the last case with 4gb of DDR2 800 memory until lately needing to replace board and supply to now that one running again with 4gb of DDR3 1600 memory.

Now when going from 4gb to 8gb for the present build having run into the "out of resources" when assigning too much memory to VMs the move upwards to 16gb eliminated ever seeing that problem again while there's no great performance boost to reflect on even when going from 4gb to 8gb! In fact the temp install of 7 on that old Socket A case at first only saw one of the two 512s working until reseating the dimms after cleaning the contacts and blasting the dimm slots out.

Since the 7 beta builds what does say about Windows 7? It shows MS can put a working OS together if they "want to" that is! MS wants to get back on their new version every few years schedule that was offset with all the delays Vista suffered but is rushing into a touchscreen OS with the next! Hopefully 7's support has been extended past the 2020 deadline originally specified since 8 and what follows may not be very suitable for many!

I just experienced my first BSOD with Windows Vista! It was my fault anyway. I had pulled my Express Card USB 3.0 hub from the slot before safely removing it using the hardware removal tool. It really surprised me, as I've pulled USB drives and other devices without "safe removal" and had no problems (btw, I never do it unless I'm sure all read/write processes have finished). I guess the Express Card interface is not as robust with safeguards.
