Win 7 availability once Win 8 launches?

There are so many copies of Windows 7 out there, I seriously doubt you'll ever have trouble locating one.

7 was an automatic success with so many desperite to get they went through questionable sources! The vendors out there know people will still want to upgrade into 7 from 2000, XP, Vista at some point once they look and frown at 8.

Even Steve Balmer realized 7 was a success from the get go when reflected on a year ago in a Softpedia report. Windows 7 - Approximately 650 Million Sold Licenses by the End of 2011 - Softpedia

^ One thing about subscriptions... the cheapest rate I've seen is $199 for the basic "individual" subscription. A couple of Windows veterans had suggested buying a subscription when I was inquiring about OS pricing, which got me curious. But what I learned is that not only is the subscription valid for only one year, at the end of the year you're required to cease using the software, especially those with activated license keys! That means if you let the subscription lapse, you can't continue using your operating system(s). You'd need to fork out $199 each year to keep going... which isn't very economical to me at all!

You're the first to get it but not for long! The higher the price you pay the more softwares you can download for ... how long ever your subscription is valid.

"Sorry! Your subscription is now expired! Please remove all softwares including the OS you run!" "wait! I didn't have a chance to make the latest backup." "Sorry! Your time is run out!" "#*$@#!!!"

I could see where that could be quite a problem real fast.

"Minority Report Central please be informed that Metro Apps is available only for Windows 8 and just another MS "saw you coming!" monopolization!" They should stamp a warning: "Windows 8 Required to Enter" at the Apps store front door. Apparently they have some type of auto detect of which OS you are in when arriving there. They want to make only 8 users can even see what they have to offer there.

That's nothing new however since when going to download an update for certain other things the site will automatically detect if you are running a 32bit or 64bit Windows and bring you to the 64bit for the 64bit when hitting the download button on the front page. These sites have a scripting at work for that type of detection.

Now as far as availability now that 8 has been out for several months one blog writer just commented on the possibility that MS will be re-releasing 7 as a fall back when 8 sales suddenly start slumping too heavily from not being received as largely as Vista was. Vista only flopped due to MS understating the actual minimum specs needed to properly run that version!

Even with XP moving up from 512mb or 1gb to 2gb was a large OS performance boost while MS stated a 512mb minimum? That became it's own recipe for disaster when OEMs were shipping with only 512mb or 1gb installed on new pcs back then! That was a definite setback for MS as well as the OEMs trying to pass off on providing more ram for the buck! Their greed as far as wanting to charge more for you to buy more memory through them resulted in customer dissatisfaction in large proportions resulting in Vista getting a bad rep!

Now for 8 this time it was MS being the "Greedy Villan" cheaping out on actually working on any new desktop theme strategy and simply slapping the RT gui onto an updated and yes also stripped down 7 core removing media support as well as the Media Center and then calling it a day. People that jumped on as soon as it was available soon after came looking for a way to get 7 back on their laptops even never thinking ahead about creating either recovery media or a full system image of the preinstalled 7 on their machines before tossing 8 on.

They found out the hard way! Always think ahead like running anything new in a VM for a good look before simply tossing what is already working out for you now!

I don't know about anyone else - maybe some non-fans of Windows 7 and/or 8 don't want to put their heads above the parapet - but in talking to other Windows users I'm getting a ratio of 10 to 1 not liking the OS.
Not that I am running a comprehensive survey in a scientific way. I'm asking people who have a computer what they think and 10 people have said they don't like 7 with just one liking it. That's 10 - 1. Literally!
Yes, I know that I am dreaming if I think that adverse comments will cause Microsoft to change their minds and bring back XP !

The only people that want to continue using XP and won't accept anything newer are those who never bothered to upgrade into Vista, 7, or went for 8 and almost died of fright going back to XP again! Some went back to Vista after trying 7 out while most fell in love with 7 from the first look! It's a "Working OS" for the desktop.

You're right, I missed out Vista after checking the features in a newspaper advertisement. It seemed to be concentrating on home cinema / entertainment. (Although I suppose all the usual basic computer features were there unmentioned).
Not having a large widescreen TV set fixed to the wall and only wanting to produce websites (5), posters, photographs and video projects (things the push-a-button-and-there-it-is-with-no-effort brigade wouldn't dream of doing) I'm staying with XP as long as I can, and am happy to do so.
A point (that I may have asked previously) why did Microsoft only produce XPMode and not, for instance, a VistaMode? Did Vista users not kick up a fuss? I see you have XPMode, Night Hawk. Why is that if Windows 7 is so good?

And, no, gregrocker, the people I quizzed about Windows 7 are not from a local vintage car club. They're a mixed bag of middle-aged, intelligent people who use computer programmes in a variety of useful ways. Sorry to spoil your snearing joke.

I see the titles "Microsoft Most Valuable Professional" and "Seven Guru" at the side of forum postings. Do they indicate Microsoft staff members briefed to counter anti-Windows 7 comments wherever they find them? ! I've often wondered . . .
