    lenovo g780 with windows 7 32bit?

    hi my 1st thread.
i purchased a lenovo g780 (21823lu) from newegg. when i received it, the performance was slow. i called lenovo tech and he had me put it in safemode to check a few things. we discovered it had windows 7 home premium 32bit instead of 64bit. the computer is full of bloatware. lenovo offered to send the 64bit disc.
i'm turned off with the slowness and now not being 64bit. i have options.
send it back or wait for the 64bit disc from lenovo. with your help i might be able to speed it up. uninstalling the 32bit and reinstalling the 64bit seems scarey. any thoughts would be appreciated.
    thank you pothound

If Lenovo tech support didn't suggest returning the laptop, I would venture to guess there are no hardware issues. If that is the case, I would wait for the disk from Lenovo and call them for support after receiving the disk and before doing the new installation of the OS.

i didn't notice any hardware issues. i just received it last wednesday. the 1st thing i noticed was the slowness, probably from the bloatware. if it will run faster i want to keep it.

If you had ordered the Lenovo g780 with Windows Home Premium 64bit, and Newegg wrongly sent you one with 32bit, then they are duty-bound to take it back and supply you the one ordered, all at their expense. Talk to them and get it done. If I were you I will do that only instead of taking more pain on to myself. ( The first liability always rests with the vendor, even if Lenovo had wrongly put 32 bit on a machine that should have rolled out with the 64 bit.)

You may wish to Clean Up Factory Bloatware, when you receive your new computer.

The software which comes preinstalled, can cause reduce the performance of operating system and cause problems in the future.

This is only a suggestion, feel free to make your own decision.

Hope you find no problems with the new computer,

    Harry

Hey pothound! ...I'm on the verge of buying the same laptop( lenovo G780 21823LU ) from newegg ... The user feedback there was pretty good but since you found that it was 'slow' , it made me rethink. I had a few questions about the notebook , i'd be extremely grateful if you could answer them :

    1. By slow do you mean startup and responsiveness is slow or do applications/games run slow? (I'm buying it for college and gaming on weekends) Have you tested games on it?

    2. Does the laptop look good? It looked a bit cheap to me on the newegg website.
(I will send you my mail ID, if you can please spare some time to send me pictures of it )

    3. What would you say about the build quality?

    4. What would you say about the screen? Can you make out pixels at normal viewing distance?

    5. How much battery life are you getting?

    6. Does it have NVidia Optimus which lets it switch between GPUs, and extend battery life?

    7. Where are its speakers?? I coudln't find them in the product images. Is the speaker clarity/ bass good?

    My other option is this:
Amazon.com: Acer Aspire V3-571G-6602 15.6-Inch Laptop (Midnight Black): Computers & Accessories

The only differences are 15.6" screen and a 2nd gen i5-2450 processor.
Given a chance, would you choose this over your lenovo?

I thought the lenovo was a better deal than the acer but i culdnt find official tech reviews nor youtube videos with hands on reviews, so i was thinking on switching to the latter which has a huge number of reviews and gameplay videos on youtube and it is indeed a great performer! ( i still want to buy the lenovo but i need a substantial review to hang on to before i buy it)

Please do update this thread if you could get it fixed and how you did it? (btw did you try uninstalling the bloatware??)

P.S. Sorry to the guys at sevenforums because it isnt related to this thread. But i had to post it here because i couldnt find reviews by tech sites for this laptop and this was the easiest way to contact someone who actually owns it

    hi vaaron
it is slow because of the bloatware. quality seems ok. the screen is very nice and bright. it has its own discrete vidio circuit..nvidia gt630m. i just received this last wednesday. the first thing i noticed was how slow it was. i'm installing a lenovo recovery dvd with windows 7 64bit on it at this moment. wish me luck. i'm in the process of removing the garbage. i'll get back to you when i find out more.
    thank you pothound
