I've tried them all and it usually ends at the bottom of the screen, although I occasionally have it at the top. I could never get into the left/right placement.
I keep on switching mine :P I'm totally indecisive about it.
I like how it looks at the top with autohide, but I wish it could remain visible when looking at the desktop. At the side I don't like it very much when its always showing, but seems pretty neat with autohide as well. Problem with side placement though is that when I'm running alot of apps, it goes onto a second "page, which is a big nono in my book. Bottom is good out of habit, but kinda looks plain after having moved it around idk.
I wish I had my old XPS laptop with 1920 x 1200 resolution, that way I wouldnt have to worry about saving screen real estate :P
I'll prolly end up keeping it at the bottom with no autohide hehe.
I moved the bar to the left side of the left monitor. I like it there now, but lke other posters would like to be able to put the Windows globe at the bottom.
Also, I don't put icons on the desktop at all. Rather, I enabled the Quick launch, put them all there. Small icons and widening the bar a bit gives me a nice, neat 4 columns with all my stuff. I have two monitors at 1920 each, so real estate isn't an issue. I thought about moving it to the secondary monitor - Left would put it in the "middle" - but that one does double duty as my TV, so that's not quite practical since alt/tab is faster than switching back to the DVI input and waiting.
For Kika - If you widen the bar, the clock and date will become fully visible.
I have it across the top. I have all my programs and applications in custom toolbars and drop down menus just feel more natural than ones that rise up. Also most applications run with their toolbars at the top so it really isn't much of an adjustment from the norm.
I got used to it always being at the bottom of the main monitor and I like it that way, you know the old saying; you can't teach an old dog new tricks.

Top, mac style haha
but i also have a (rocket) dock at the bottom, very useful :)
One thing thats disappointing about Seven is the lack of taskbar customization. I really would've liked to be able to move the start orb as well. It really does limit some configurations.
