packard bell pc disabling hard drive

    hi,
i have recently decided to get rid of my very old packard bell pc. but in it manual it says "if you should need to remove or replace your hard drive please make sure its status is offline before removing it". so my question is how do you put a pc hard into offline status.

    thanks,
    james

Hi evansj, do you want to just erase the HDD before you scrap the PC or do you intend to keep the HDD for future use?
If the former , there are many free to download erasers ,just google or if you have access to a powerful magnet then run that over the drive a feww times ,then the HDD can be disposed of responsibly :)

The HD drive needs power to be detectable.
