laptop wont boot sticks on windows logo

trying to solve a problem on a dell inspiron n5010 running windows 7

when you switch it on it goes to the black boot up screen and you are given these options
    Launch startup repair(recomended)
    start windows normally

if i select start windows normally it goes to the windows start up logo but eventually freezes then crash to a blue screen than goes off immediatley before i can read the info on screen

if i select the launch start up repair it goes to a blue screen with some small pics of leaves on and stays there and does nothing

any ideas how i can repair this please

    Startup Repair Infinite Loop Recovery

i have read this but i dont even get the grey option boxes just that blue screen background

You need to boot the computer from a Win 7 DVD and select Startup repair

ok so tried to reinstall windows and was getting same problems, so ran the dell diagnostic disk from boot up and in the hard drive test it shows some bad blocks, as i can get into windows to run chkdisk does this mean the hard drive is busted and it needs a new one

Yes in my opinion anytime you start to get errors on a drive it is time to replace it. There are utilities to Map Out those bad blocks but it has been my experience that once this starts to happen the drive is ready to fail completely.

So Replace the drive. If the system isn't that old you may still be under warranty. You can check that on the Dell support web page. You have to enter you Service tab and then go to the Warranty section.

You can run Disk Check from the Win7 installer's System Recovery Options Command Line. You will need the installer anyway for Troubleshooting Windows 7 Failure to Start where it is available in Step 5. You may also need it to Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7

Then run the HD maker's HD Diagnostic extended CD scan to verify the condtion of the HD with certainty.

You have bad sectors on your hard-drive, and as mentioned by edwar, these bad sectors can corrupt your hard-drive further over time. Although, you are able to repair soft bad sectors, and you may wish to still run Disk Check.

Unplug the HD to see if DVD boots correctly.

Try the Macrium rescue disk in tutorial if you need to try to rescue data, or slave the drive to another PC.
