Computer "hangs up" before windows 7 start up screen

    Hi All,
My name is Freddy and I have a big computer question. I am new to working on computers so I decided to build my own computer and it has been working great except for this major issue. When I started up my computer yesterday, it began boot as usual displaying the info for my graphics card then the computer hangs up. It doesnt even make it to the screen that usually has "BIOS F08 and Safe Mode F10" in the bottom right hand corner of the screen. I tried to reboot and that didnt work. I tried to remove and replace the motherboard battery (which fixed this problem the first time for a 2 week time period) and that didnt work. my only other thought could be that something has gone wrong with my motherboard. A friend of mine that has built many computers before told me that Intel motherboards are crap and that I should go out and buy a MSI motherboard. So I dont know what to do, if its a simple fix, can I fix this hanging issue or should I just invest in a new MSI motherboard. (all my specs are listed in my profile)
    Thanks for your help!

Do the battery trick again, if it works you may need a new one. Let us know if that works. Should just take a minute.

OK Here we go, process of elimination.

    1) Take out and reseat the video card, make sure the power cord is fully seated.

Try moving the RAM around into different slots and or removing one stick and see if it boots. Sounds more like a RAM or other hardware fault causing the hang. Yes it could be the Motherboard but I disagree with your friend as to the quality of Intel boards. They are no better or worse then other makes. That doesn't mean your board hasn't failed in some way.

Personally I think MSI boards are some of the worse boards you can buy. But then I have always used Asus board for years and see no reason to change.

Just to be clear; did you replace the battery 2 weeks ago?
The problem you describe can be caused by a bad CMOS battery. If you replace it again, be sure to use the proper precautions; unplugged from outlet and be sure you are grounded.

In regards to your friend's statement that Intel motherboards are, I'll say not worth buying, that's a personal opinion and not factual.

Thank you to everyone who replied thread. I removed the RAM sticks and labeled them 1-4 and then messed around with the different combinations. I found out that one of the sticks isnt working properly. Also I noticed that my computer got to the windows log in screen must faster without the graphics card installed. So I am going to see if everything is up to date with the card. If it does it again then I plan on removing the card and replacing it. Finally, I noticed that the battery on the motherboard was a little loose because it seemed like the metal contact wasnt making a connection with the top of the battery. With all these little items fixed, the computer seems to be running fine again. Thank you guys again for all your help and guidence!!

mtf nvidia audio drivers (gpu) are known to cause issues sometimes when trying to load windows.
