File transfer terminates if I close folder windows.

If I close the folders during a file transfer, leaving only the transfer details window open, the file transfer ends prematurely. Is this normal for Windows 7?

I tried to replicate your problem on my windows 7 x64 system and the transfer continued eventhough both the source and target windows are closed. So this is not normal for Windows 7.

One of the solution is try using the free Teracopy program. As Teracopy is an independent program, it will continue the file transfer eventhough the windows are closed.

Thanks. I'm actually glad I had this problem, otherwise I might not have been introduced to TeraCopy. I love it.

I like Teracopy myself, but I'm interested in what's causing your problem with Explorer file moves/copies.

I would also like to find out but I don't even know where to begin looking for the culprit. I can't see anything in the Applicatoin and System logs under Windows Logs in event viewer. If there's some kind of debugger I can run while transferring files let me know and maybe we can find out what's causing it.

Are there partial files left on the target after closing?

Have you checked Event Viewer's default Custom View (named as Administrative Events) for relevant events? There might be something there.

Seems as though you should get some sort of error message as a popup window or something to let the user know that the transfer he initiated was aborted. I always watch to ensure it completes the way I expect it to, but some users don't. They wouldn't know about it until they went looking for them at a later time, then finding out that the files weren't where they expected them to be.
