    Disabling ToolTips?

I know its probably the most asked Windows question there is, but has any one found a way to disable tooltips entirely?

I've done the easily found registry edit ShowTipInfo for Explorer - doesnt change anything for me, ANYWHERE. I still get tooltips in IE.

They're driving me nuts and are now appearing in the weirdest locations sometimes - namely the TOP of my screen. - for no apparent reason, I certainly didnt (knowingly) change anything!

If any one has anything, please please PLEASE reply! They drive me nuts. Thanks!

    Hello Neko,

Would you post a screenshot showing an example of this and what you are doing when it pop-ups? It may be able to better help ID what this may be since you already disabled pop-up descriptions. :)

Uh... you know, that little box that appears when you put mouse over something (like a folder) that shows the info of whatever the mouse is sitting on? I guess you're calling it "pop-up descriptions", but the offical name for it is "Tooltip" - at least from everything I could find via googling. And for the record, thats all I'm doing... putting my mouse over something (taskbar icon, desktop icon, etc etc), and it appears after a second or two. I dont want it to appear at all.

The registry edit does nothing, like I said. Still get them in Internet Explorer when I put my mouse over something (like a search bar, the buttons here, etc).

If there isnt a way to disable them (which I dont think there is, but cant hurt to ask), has any one been able to find a way to increase the time it takes for them to appear like you can with the taskbar preview pane?

ETA: Went looking, found the mouseover tutorial that is suppose to increase the hover time before the tooltip appears. Set it to the max value (4000), logged off and back on... didnt change anything.

I think I tried much the same but couldn't resolve the issue. It seems one is dependent upon how the webpages are written. I avoid Google because of this and use StartPage instead, much nicer experience ...

The tooltips in IE drive me crazy too. I gave up long ago on a fix, so when I saw this thread I thought 'maybe someone has figured it out'. Alas, no.
