Love the system - just one question.

Just installed the evaluation copy, build 7100 (is that the latest?), which I got from a friend. I absolutely love the performance. The tab layout is brilliant, and I have yet to find something I dislike about it. It's basically everything Vista should have been.

My one concern is - will I have to re-install the operating system when the evaluation version runs out? Or will I be able to just upgrade from the purchased version (keeping all my files and settings)?

    Thanks!

    Welcome cscott5288,

I have done it both ways already on several machines.

Read the tutorials section here at SF. They are great.

Please help us out with your info.

What build # & Version of the Win_7 ? Where did you get the iso file from ? How did you burn the DVD ? slow x4 speed ?
Any Over Clocking of ram or cpu ?

    Windows 7 Ultimate - 32 bit
    Build 7100
    No overclocking

Don't know how fast the DVD was burned, how does that matter? I got the CD from a friend who I believe got it off a web site, don't know which.

So is that a Yes or a No on being able to just upgrade it when the full version comes out, keeping all me files and settings on here?

    cscott,
Your best bet wiil be a a clean install. Use easy transfer to transfer your settings but who will need to reinstall your programs like office, firefox ect. Easy transfer will then reset all you settinds and links. After about 6 installs on all types of systems this seems to give me the best results.

    Good Luck
    Ken

Note, take doc's advise and fill in your specs.

That's surprising ... You'd think it would be hassle free to upgrade to the purchased version.

    Welcome to Seven Forums.

According to MS, no, you will have to do a Custom or 'Clean' install. Upgrade-in-place is not an option with any of the pre-release builds.

It is (relatively) hassle free to upgrade from a stable operating system. However, release candidates, betas, alphas, etc, don't really fall into that category and rarely support an offical upgrade path.
