Incorrect icons displayed on Win7 taskBar

    Hi there

I have a very annoying problem that i can not seem to solve. I am really starting to pull my hair out over this. I have tried to search for a solution to this problem on this and other forums with no luck. I have tried rebuilding the icon cache using the batch file (Rebuild_Icon_Cache.bat) that i found on this forum.

Basically on the task bar i see the wrong icon for 2 applications when i open them, Adobe Reader X and Microsoft Office Communicator. Both these applications when i open them look like the paint icon. I have tried to upload a screenshot of my taskbar.

    Please help

    Thanks again

    Minaz

Hello Minaz, and welcome to Seven Forums.

If you like, reinstalling the programs to do a repair install of them would most likely fix this.

    Hope this helps, :)

I have had this happen and here is how to fix it.
Adobe use a weird shortcut with no properties so you have to do this the hard way.
Copy and paste this path into windows explorer C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe
This will give you the folder that Adobe Reader Version 11 ot 10 is installed in. Open the folders until you find the "reader" folder. In that folder is the AcroRd32.exe file. Right click on this and create a shortcut. Windows will ask you if you want the shortcut on the desktop, say yes. Go to the desktop and rename the shortcut to Adobe Reader from AcroRd32.exe by right clicking and selecting rename. You need to be and administrator to carry out this operation. Do the same thing for Office communicator C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office. Then pin the icons to the taskbar.
Hope this helps, let me know if you need more help.
