Desktop Icons & Right Click Not Working

    Hey Guys,
I did a clean install of Win 7 32bit last week and I am facing this issue once in a while. The desktop icons can't be used I can't click or select any icon, also right click of the mouse doesn't work. I can right click on the taskbar or in windows explorer but not on the desktop. Even show desktop icon doesn't work when the above happens.
There is no specific time when this happens or it doesn't happen after running a particular program so I can't figure out what is the reason for this random fault.

    Please help :)

    Thanks,
    Chinu

Try running a system file check: SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

Failing that, you could try a repair install: Repair Install

My friend gave me the Win7 disc and yes I do have an antivirus, using Bitdifender.I have come to know what is causing the problem. It seems to be iexplore.exe, I always use chrome and I saw this process in task manager when I ended it I could use my desktop so I don't know what to do now. If it is a virus then Bitdefender doesn't seem to pick it up. Please help !

Was this a disc straight from Microsoft or was this a disc burned by your friend and given to you (i.e. could this have been improperly downloaded and/or burned)?

I have just bought a brand new HP laptop with windows 7 and the right click has stopped working twice now ! No idea what is causing it to stop but it starts working again after rebooting. Very frustrating, however the programs will run when you use OPEN command. Cant open eg a new folder or start a program or anything from desktop using right click from laptop mouse. ANY ONE out there have a clue ?
