shadow or ghosting on desktop from pervious window / pop-up?

New install of Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit.

What causes ghosting or shadowing from a previous window on the desktop or next window you have on top?

As we were setting up the wireless connection a pop-up from the network icon in the lower right taskbar area seemed to ghost or shadow on the next window that came to the top and even the desktop. It did not go away till the PC was restarted. This was a Windows 7 pop-up, not a software popup.

    What's up with that?

It's more then likely a Monitor problem.

I have found that the notification area has unpredictable behavior. If the issue continues, then it may be time to look at other causes, but a fluke now and then is not all that unusual.

+1 to what Sir George said, I've seen the same thing every now and then. A notification pops up but doesn't close right or leaves something behind. So far its only ever been a one time deal for me so I don't sweat it. If the same program kept doing it then I'd have to look into it.

It was related to the same pop-up about taking too long for the wifi to connect. The issue with the router setup has been resolved so maybe that particular pop-up will never appear again and leave its imprint watermark behind. Funny thing was you could open a new window and it would still be there, or close all windows and it was on the desktop until you restarted the PC. Mostly like transparent ghost outline of the top and one side of the pop-up. Thanks for the replies.
