windows failed to start application missing or corrupt aspire one d255

    Hi
I am trying to fix my grandaughters acer asprire one d 255 it will not boot up .
    Says file:windows\system32\winload.exe status oxoooooof
info: the selected entry could not be loaded because the application is corrupt when i try to restore to factory settngs only gets to 16 % and gives a error code sysyem restore failed i/o device error f10 brings me to edit boot option so itry to type bootrec/fixboot. if i could type the right thing on the edit boot option might work but not sure what to type . Since there is no disc drive to insert disc how do i do a system restore with no disc drive thank you for any help on this mary

"restore to factory settngs only gets to 16 %" So it failed after 16%. Not everything has finished so windows wouldn't start whatsover!

failed i/o device error ... hmm looks like harddrive is faulty. Still waranty?
Since you did bootrec/fixboot you seemto be able to enter "command prompt".
    Code:
    dir c:
    dir d:
    dir e:
    What commands give a listing?

    Code:
    chkdsk/f/r c:
    chkdsk/f/r d:
    chkdsk/f/r e:
any errors? btw it takes hours to complete!

Use an external USB drive to run the disk.
