    Locking Down Notification Area and Start Button


    Hello everyone,

    I am locking down our Windows 7 computers and I want to know if it is possible disable the right-click on the notification area (system tray) and the right-click on the start button (or just removing "open windows explorer") from the right-click context.

    Hello,

    To disable right click for Taskbar and Start Menu

    Taskbar Context Menus - Enable or Disable

    * Start Group Policy Editor. (Start->Run->"gpedit.msc")
    * On the left, go to User Configuration->Administrative Templates->Start Menu and Taskbar.
    * On the right, enable this option "Remove access to the context menus for the taskbar".

    I already enabled "Remove access to the context menus for the taskbar" but I am still able to right click on the wireless icon in the system tray as well as open up windows explorer by right clicking on the start button. I want to remove all functionality for these users.

    I was able to lock down the Start Menu context menu by the registry if anyone wants to know how to do it here are the steps.

    Start the registry editor (regedit.exe)
    Move to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer
    From the Edit menu select New - DWORD Value
    Enter a name of NoTrayContextMenu and press Enter
    Double click the new value and set to 1.
