Can't delete files or change ownership

I just installed Windows 7 Enterprise 64-bit on two machines, and then Firefox 16.0.1 on each. Trying to replace the password files in my new Firefox profile, I found that many of these folders and files (in User\me\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla) cannot be deleted, nor can their ownership be changed. They belong to me already, and I'm an administrator with Full Control.

I've tried 72 tricks, including Emco UnLockIt 3.0.3, Unlocker 1.9.1, Take Ownership registry keys, takeown (from the command line), etc. Nothing works. I can't move them, delete them or anything. Nor can Mozbackup create a backup profile (it can't write the backup).

Why does Firefox create these weird locked files and folders? Why doesn't Windows 7 allow me to take control of them?

    I'd greatly appreciate any help.

    Tom

Unfortunately, rebooting does not help. Thanks anyway...

Yes. But I'm confused because both machines are literally 1 day old(!), with only Office 2003, Dropbox and Thunderbird installed. Literally, brand new and almost bare...and the behavior shows up on both machines. Weird...

I am going to assume that you have attempted to take or add access permission. Assumptions are bad though? Can you confirm ? Besides using software that i have no experience with, what have you done? Can you please tell me what regisrty modifications you have attempted.

Normally this would be an easy fix, Take Ownership of a File or Folder did you try to take ownership of folder within folder properties? if not try to.

Yes, I tried (many times!) the usual routine of taking ownership, to no avail. The registry modifications were not mine, so I won't detail them. I just followed up tip after tip after tip...

The only successful idea is to manipulate the folders and files in Safe Mode, which works for me!

    Thanks for your help,

    Tom
