how to gain permanent permission to your 2nd HDD after reinstall ?

as the title says, but details as below.

i got a 128GB SSD as my system drive for OS and programs.
a 1TB HDD for data and downloads

from times i'll have to delete everything, reinstall windows. however everytime i do that i can no longer download file to the 2nd HDD, and whenever i need to save something to it will pop up some message telling me i need permission. even when i use the same user ID as before i reinstall windows.

anyone know how to get perma access to all the folders?

If I remember my NTFS permissions correct, setting permissons on the hard drive to Everyone will do the trick.

If you need the steps on doing so let me know.

It's normal and happens normally when reinstalling. It's due to the file permissions associated to accounts from the old install and the users in the new one haven't any access, hence the access denied error. Using the same username in the new install as in the old will not work, because internally Windows manages permissions using a random number generated for each user (called SID) which is unique, and the username is just a friendly way to display it, but it sees them as 2 different things.

The correct solution is to take ownership of everything, then delete the existing permissions and establish new ones as you like. Setting access to everyone will save from this if you don't care about security.
