    speed of your system

The speed of your system while browsing net does depend on many factors , not only the RAM ,,

it depends on some internal characteristics of the system and some external factors ...
i think speed of your system depends on :

    1/ RAM -hardware
if you have more RAM , you have more speed

    2/CPU -hardware
the more perfect processor , the quicker

    3/ software problems
like viruses , the more virus free your system is , the perfect your system performance is

    4/ connection speed
the speed of connection does have a role

    5/ Modem
modems convert analogue signals to digital and vice versa
but here is a question ,, how to know or determine the modem power or ability ?
is it that the modems have maximum number of bits or quantity of data it could handle per unit time ? thus differentiating different modems ? and how to achieve that from the basic look at the modem device ?

    6/ wires
i think as the phone line experiences noise interference when it is damaged , the net lines also if they are not in a good condition internally ,, specially the portions outside home .. they may affect the speed of net .. is it ?

do you any other reasons ?

For Net operations, the main factor is the speed of the line. All the other factors are marginal - I think.

let us assume two cases ..
a case of very powerful system .. but slow connection speed , suppose dial up .
in this case the net speed would be slow

the second case is for an old computer with less RAM and weak processor .. at the same time very high speed connection ... do you think here the browsing would be fast ?

you mean if there are more pending updates or if the user initially prevented any updates ? which one ?

Yes - I have a 6 year old modest laptop (1.8GHz duo core) with 2GB of RAM that the wife uses here in Germany on a fast line and the response times and upload/download speeds are very good.

In Florida I have a desktop with an i7, 8GB of RAM but a much slower line and the net operations are slower.

so here you prove that speed of browsing depends on line ,, more than hardware configuration

    updates not installed..

essentially WHS is correct 99% of the performance will depend on Internet speed. A web browser very many resources on a PC.
